Just before the weekend starts, I suggest to take a look at Bloesem who posted a great weekend read about illustrators of children's books. You will see many (Dutch) illustrated books that I read as a child and which I now read to my almost 2-year old son. These pictures show “Jip & Janneke” books written by Annie M. Schmidt and illustrated by Fiep Westendorp. I have recently read the biography of Annie M. Schmidt by Annejet van der Zijl. It is a fascinating story about this former librarian who became so famous and unbelievable productive at a rather late stage in her life.
